TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 10, 2024: Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) kicked off its novel Induction Week for the incoming batch of 2024 with the ‘Jurists Speak’ programme on last Sunday. This event marked the beginning of a week-long series of activities designed to welcome and integrate new students.
The programme began with an address by Prof. V. C. Vivekanandan, Vice Chancellor of HNLU, who encouraged the new students to value diversity, gender respect, and academic excellence. He emphasized the empowering nature of the legal profession, stating,
“If engineers build urban systems and doctors build immune systems, lawyers need to build ‘justice systems’.”
The Chief Guest, Distinguished Jurist and Attorney General of India, Shri R. Venkataramani, highlighted the role of cultural values in Indian institutions of higher learning. He urged the students to use the freedom provided by legal education to benefit the community and underscored the importance of truthfulness in the legal profession. He also emphasized the significant role of technology in law, describing it as a pathway to freedom and a facilitator of innovation.
Prof. Dr. Ranbir Singh, Guest of Honour and Distinguished Jurist Professor at HNLU, noted the evolution of legal education, observing that while many in the past joined law courses by chance, today’s students choose this path with intention, thanks to the establishment of National Law Universities.
Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, another Guest of Honour and Distinguished Jurist Professor at HNLU, stressed the importance of the Constitution for law students, advocating that it should be ever-present in their minds and at the center of their hearts, guiding them to make the rule of law a way of life.
Dr. Vipan Kumar, Acting Registrar, delivered the Welcome Address, and Dr. Avinash Samal, Dean of Student Welfare, offered the Vote of Thanks.
The Weeklong Induction 2024 will feature both formal and informal interactions with students, including a joint musical evening, health briefings, sports matches, alumni interactions, and a gender sensitization colloquium.
