TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 11, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, accusing it of neglecting the state’s education system and halting critical construction and repair works in schools. According to senior spokesperson Surendra Verma, under the BJP’s rule, schemes like mid-day meals, bicycle distribution, uniform provision, and scholarships are languishing on paper without implementation. Furthermore, Verma alleged that numerous Balwadis, once vibrant centers of early childhood education, have been quietly closed down.
Verma highlighted that before the BJP took power in December 2023, the previous Congress government had allocated substantial funds for school infrastructure through initiatives like the “School Jatan Yojana.” This included extensive renovations of school buildings, construction of toilets, and provision of drinking water. However, since the change in administration, Verma claimed that most ongoing projects initiated by the previous government have been abruptly halted, with contractors left unpaid due to alleged commission-related disputes.
“The BJP government’s mismanagement has led to a dire situation in over 48,000 government schools across Chhattisgarh,” Verma asserted.
“Basic facilities are crumbling, and the promises made to improve educational standards have remained unfulfilled.”
During the press release, Verma also criticized the discontinuation of recruitment processes for over 33,000 regular teaching positions, which were initiated under the Congress administration. He pointed out that the removal of Vidya Mitras and Guest Teachers, along with the dismissal of assistant teachers holding B.Ed degrees, has further exacerbated the education sector’s woes.
“The BJP’s focus appears to be solely on enriching themselves through commissions, while critical sectors like education and healthcare suffer from neglect,
” Verma concluded. “It’s high time the BJP government stops its rhetoric and takes immediate action to repair and rejuvenate our dilapidated school infrastructure.”
The Congress spokesperson’s remarks underscored growing concerns over the BJP government’s handling of educational institutions in Chhattisgarh, signaling a continuing political debate over governance and public service delivery in the state.
