TFP Bureau, RAIPUR; July 12, 2024: Amid mounting concerns over the worsening law and order situation in Chhattisgarh, State Congress President Deepak Baij announced plans for a significant protest action. Addressing reporters at Rajiv Bhawan, Baij highlighted the pervasive fear gripping the state, citing alarming statistics of violence and criminal activity.
“The deteriorating law and order in Chhattisgarh have left every citizen vulnerable,” Baij expressed gravely. “From rampant murders to shocking incidents of rape and arson targeting public offices, the situation demands urgent attention.”
Under the BJP-led government, Baij accused, crime has surged unchecked, with over 300 reported rapes, 80 gang rapes, and more than 200 murders in just six months. He lamented the rise of criminal activities like stabbings, robberies, and chain snatchings, which have instilled fear even in urban centers like the capital.
“Instead of safeguarding its people, the government seems more focused on protecting criminals,” Baij criticized, citing instances where legal actions against perpetrators were allegedly softened to shield them from severe penalties.
The Congress leader further condemned the government’s handling of tribal communities, accusing it of neglect and exploitation rather than protection. He pointed to incidents of harassment and arbitrary arrests under the guise of combating Naxalism, further alienating local populations.
In response to these grievances, the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee has declared a mass protest, scheduling a siege of the Vidhan Sabha on July 24. Thousands of party members and supporters are expected to gather, demanding comprehensive security measures and immediate governmental intervention to restore law and order.
The announcement comes amidst growing public outcry and judicial scrutiny, with the state’s High Court recently questioning the government’s efficacy in maintaining public safety.
The Congress-led initiative aims to mobilize public pressure and force the administration to prioritize citizen security in a state fraught with escalating violence and insecurity.
