Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha Virtually Inspects Chhattisgarh’s National Lok Adalat

In a historic initiative, the Chief Justice oversees proceedings across 23 districts, promoting swift resolution of cases

TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 13, 2024: The second National Lok Adalat of the year was held in Chhattisgarh today, with Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha of the Chhattisgarh High Court conducting virtual inspections of the proceedings across all 23 District and Sessions Courts. Chief Justice Sinha, who also serves as the Chief Patron of the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, engaged in dialogue with Chief District Judges and presiding officers, urging them to resolve as many cases as possible.

During his virtual inspection, Chief Justice Sinha witnessed the successful mediation of a domestic violence dispute at the Raigarh District Court, where an elderly couple, previously living separately, reconciled and agreed to live together. The Chief Justice commended the parties for their efforts and wished them a happy future.

Chief Justice Sinha also visited the two benches of the High Court in Bilaspur, encouraging advocates and parties to utilize the Lok Adalat for resolving their cases. This marked the first time in Chhattisgarh’s history that all High Court Justices visited their portfolio districts to oversee Lok Adalat proceedings, enhancing the credibility and transparency of the system.

The Chief Justice’s use of modern technology to inspect all 23 districts exemplifies the judiciary’s commitment to integrating technology into legal proceedings. This initiative is expected to boost confidence in the Lok Adalat system and encourage greater participation from all parties involved.

Today’s National Lok Adalat, spanning from the High Court to Taluka-level courts and Revenue Courts, resolved over eight lakh cases, including more than seven lakh seventy-three thousand pre-litigation cases and over sixty-four thousand five hundred pending cases. The total awards passed amounted to approximately Rs 199 crores.

Chief Justice Sinha expressed his gratitude to the High Court Justices, presiding officers, judicial staff, paralegal volunteers, and other department employees who contributed to the success of the National Lok Adalat. He also thanked the print and electronic media for their role in publicizing the event and raising public awareness.
