TFP Bureau, Korba; July 17 2024: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a renowned entity in India’s aluminium industry and part of Vedanta Aluminium, has been at the forefront of socio-economic transformation in Chhattisgarh. Since 2010, BALCO’s Vedanta Skill School has upskilled more than 12,000 rural youth. In celebration of this achievement, BALCO commemorated World Youth Skills Day with over 100 trainees from the Vedanta Skill School. The event included a variety of competitions and activities designed to foster both personal and professional development, such as dance performances, fashion shows, cooking contests, and the creation of electrical models.
Kashish Yangde, a trainee specializing in solar PV installation, shared her aspirations:
“I sought financial independence and the ability to support my family. It’s immensely rewarding to have gained skills in the renewable energy sector, which is increasingly in demand.”
Himanshu Kumar Sahu, a recent graduate from the fitter trade who secured a position at Aqua Pumps Limited, recounted his experience: “The 45-day training at Vedanta Skill School has been life-changing. The residential facilities provided a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, equipping me with essential technical skills and fostering personal growth.”
Tameshwari Patel, currently enrolled in the 45-day sewing machine operator course, expressed her enthusiasm: “I have always been interested in sewing and used to make clothes for my dolls. The training at Vedanta Skill School has enabled me to turn my passion into a profession, empowering me to lead a self-sustaining life.”

Vedanta Skill Schools have created pathways for local youth to acquire employable skills, ensuring their financial security and comprehensive development. By empowering the youth, we contribute to the socio-economic growth of the region.”
Vedanta Skill School, a 5-star rated SMART centre by the Government of India and accredited by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Sector Skills Councils (SSC), offers free residential training in seven trades—Sewing Machine Operator, Electrician, Welding, Hospitality, Fitter-Leveling Alignment & Balancing, Solar PV Technician, and Mobile Repair Operator. The training programs, lasting 45 to 65 days, adhere to NSDC guidelines and emphasize holistic development with sessions on communication, safety, legal rights, and menstrual health, supported by mentoring from experienced BALCO employees. In fiscal year 2024, over 1,200 individuals benefited from the program, with 72% of participants being female and a 100% placement rate in companies across India.
