TFP Bureau, Raipur; July22, 2024: The Sports and Youth Welfare Department in Raipur has selected 40 talented archers for the Residential Archery Academy. State-level selection trials were conducted on June 25 and 26 at Swami Vivekananda Stadium and the Archery Arena in the Sports Directorate Campus.
Guided by Sports Director Smt. Tanuja Salam, the trials were meticulously organized by Nodal Officer Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivas, Administrator of the Sports Academy in Raipur. The selection committee, which included trainers from the Sports Authority of India Training Center Raipur and the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare (NIS), conducted tests on motor ability, medical fitness, sports skills, and mental ability to evaluate the players. Selection was based on merit and performance, targeting the age group of 13 to 17.
Participants came from various districts across the state. The selected archers include:
– 5 girls and 9 boys from Raipur
– 7 girls from Surguja
– 2 boys and 4 girls from Dhamtari
– 5 girls and 2 boys from Mahasamund
– 3 boys from Narayanpur
– 1 boy from Bilaspur
– 1 boy from Kondagaon
– 1 girl from Gariaband
These players will be admitted to the academy within 10 days. If any selected player is unable to join, admission will be offered to waitlisted candidates based on merit.
At the sports academy, players will receive comprehensive facilities including free accommodation, meals, educational support, costumes, sports equipment, accident insurance, and opportunities to participate in competitions as per the Sports Academy Operations Rules, 2014. The academy aims to prepare its residents for international-level competitions, with training provided by NIS trainers appointed by the state government. Additionally, international-level archery players and coaches will periodically visit the academy for specialized training sessions.
