TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 27, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee held a significant press conference at the State Congress Headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, where key leaders voiced their criticisms of the current BJP government. State Congress President Deepak Baij, Leader of Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant, and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel addressed the media.

State Congress President Deepak Baij emphasized the recent political developments and the Congress party’s efforts during the state assembly’s monsoon session, which began on July 22 and concluded yesterday. Baij highlighted the Congress party’s fight for the rights of the state’s residents, including their gherao of the Vidhan Sabha on July 24, protesting against deteriorating law and order and other critical issues. Despite government obstacles and heavy rain, thousands participated, demonstrating the public’s trust in Congress as a robust opposition. Baij criticized the BJP government’s heavy-handed response to their peaceful protest, including police lathi-charges and water cannon attacks.

Leader of Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant recounted the Congress party’s successes during the assembly session, where they forced the government to discuss four adjournments in five days. He pointed out the effective presentation of the people’s issues, including the law and order situation, farmers’ problems, and the tragic Balodabazar incident. Mahant criticized the BJP government for halting initiatives from the previous Congress administration and highlighted significant failures in healthcare, such as the lack of reagents for blood tests and widespread corruption in medicine supplies.

Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel praised Baij and Mahant for their leadership and criticized the BJP’s governance. Baghel detailed the government’s failures in delivering basic services like gram and ration distribution and criticized the ineffective Pradhan Mantri Awas scheme. He claimed that the BJP’s Vishnudev government, despite its promises of good governance, has failed in multiple areas, including law and order and healthcare, and has revived issues like illegal businesses and mafias that plagued the state before 2018. Baghel highlighted the resurgence of Naxalite incidents and the inadequate response to public health crises like malaria and diarrhoea, which have severely impacted the state’s forest areas.

Baghel also emphasized the significant achievements of the previous Congress government in reducing malaria infection rates from 5.63% in 2018 to 0.99% through effective campaigns, contrasting this with the current administration’s failures.

The press conference underscored the Congress party’s role as a vigilant opposition committed to addressing the people’s concerns and holding the BJP government accountable for its shortcomings.
