TFP Bureau, Raipur; August 7,2024: In a significant move aimed at wildlife conservation, the state government has approved the establishment of the “Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve.” The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
Acting on recommendations from the State Wildlife Board and with the concurrence of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the new reserve will encompass the Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Sanctuary. Spanning an area of 2,829.387 square kilometers, it will cover parts of the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Koriya, Surajpur, and Balrampur districts.
The Department of Forest and Climate Change has been tasked with completing the formalities to establish the reserve. This initiative is expected to boost eco-tourism and create employment opportunities for local villagers as guides, tourist vehicle operators, and resort managers. Additionally, the National Project Tiger Authority will allocate extra funding for the reserve’s operations, supporting new livelihood projects in nearby villages.
