RRVUNL Achieves Milestone with Massive Tree Plantation at PEKB Mine

Dense Forest Created by Planting Over 12 Lakh Trees; Biodiversity Flourishing

TFP Bureau, Ambikapur; August 31, 2024: Rajasthan State Power Generation Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) has made significant strides in environmental conservation with the successful creation of a dense forest at its Parsa East Kete Basen (PEKB) mine. The initiative, supported by Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) and the Horticulture Department, involved planting 12.76 lakh trees across 450 hectares of reclaimed mining land.

The newly established forest features over 90,000 wild trees, including species such as banyan, mahua, khair, and mango. Additionally, the project utilized Japanese Miyawaki technology to plant more than 84,000 trees. The site also saw the transplantation of over 9,000 mature trees using advanced machinery.

Shri Raj Kumar Pandey, head of the horticulture department, noted that mining activities began in 2012 and since then, tree planting has been a priority. The department has nurtured five lakh plants in its nursery, achieving a 90% survival rate. The annual target of 1.20 lakh saplings was met by the end of July, with ongoing efforts to expand the green cover.

Local residents, including traders and villagers from Udaipur and Surajpur, have expressed amazement at the transformation of the area. Shekhar Kumar Singhdev and Ashish Aggarwal, visitors from Udaipur, highlighted the impressive scale of the reforestation effort.

In addition to its environmental impact, RRVUNL’s social initiatives are enhancing local education and health services. The project also supports tribal women through self-help groups, contributing to their economic development and integration into the broader progress of India.
