Coal Production Reaches 384 Million Tonnes by August in FY 2024-25

Ministry of Coal Reports 6.48% Growth in Coal Production, Significant Increase in Dispatches

TFP Bureau, New Delhi; September 2, 2024: The Ministry of Coal has reported a significant rise in coal production for the current financial year, with output reaching 384.08 million tonnes (MT) by August 2024. This marks a 6.48% increase compared to the 360.71 MT produced during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed substantially to this growth, producing 290.39 MT between April and August 2024, reflecting a 3.17% increase over the 281.46 MT produced during the corresponding period last year. Coal production from captive and other entities saw an even more remarkable rise, reaching 68.99 MT, a 30.56% increase from 52.84 MT in the same period last year.

The cumulative coal dispatches up to August 2024 also showed strong performance, totaling 412.07 MT, up 5.14% from 391.93 MT in the same period of FY 2023-24. CIL alone dispatched 309.98 MT of coal, a modest growth of 1.51% compared to 305.37 MT last year. Additionally, captive and other entities recorded a significant 31.48% growth in coal dispatches, reaching 76.95 MT, up from 58.53 MT in the same period last year.

These figures highlight the coal sector’s improved production capabilities and its commitment to maintaining a steady supply chain, ensuring the energy demands of the nation are met efficiently.
