TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 4, 2014: Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai announced today that Chhattisgarh has secured approval for 8,46,931 housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) from the Government of India. Speaking at a press conference from his residence office, the Chief Minister hailed this as a significant achievement for the state, noting that it will help millions of poor families realize the dream of owning a home.
Shri Sai highlighted that during the previous five years, more than 18 lakh poor families in Chhattisgarh were deprived of housing benefits under PMAY because the former state government failed to contribute the required 40% state share for the scheme. This, he said, effectively stripped these families of their rightful access to affordable housing.
“Our government was sworn in on December 13, 2023, and in our first cabinet meeting the next day, we approved 18 lakh houses under the Prime Minister’s scheme,” Shri Sai stated, emphasizing the swift action taken by his administration to address the housing shortfall.
The newly approved housing units for Chhattisgarh include 6,99,331 homes and an additional 1,47,600 housing units under SECC 2011. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for this significant allocation, which will benefit over 3 crore people across the state, especially underprivileged families.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma and Durg MLA Shri Gajendra Yadav were also present during the announcement.
Chief Minister Sai also highlighted the progress under the Pradhan Mantri Janaman Yojana, noting that 24,064 houses have been approved for the special backward tribes, known as the “adopted sons” of the President, many of which are already completed. He informed that since January, 1,99,000 houses have been constructed, and he assured that the target of 18 lakh homes would be met in a timely manner, in line with Prime Minister Modi’s commitments.
Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned that under the Need Nelanar Yojana “Your Good Village,” the state has requested approval for more than 10,000 additional houses for Naxal-affected and surrendered Naxalites. The proposal is currently under consideration by Rural Development Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan, with approval anticipated soon.
