TFP Bureau, Raipur; September 9, 2024: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has issued a public appeal urging citizens to take shelter during thunderstorms, emphasizing the importance of caution to prevent lightning-related incidents.
“The safety of our people is a top priority, and in the case of thunderstorms, vigilance is key to avoiding the dangers of lightning,” said Chief Minister Sai. He encouraged residents to remain alert and follow safety protocols.
Following recent lightning-related fatalities in the state, the Chief Minister expressed his sorrow and urged all citizens to take necessary precautions. He has directed district authorities to demonstrate safety measures in local languages to raise awareness about lightning and thunderstorm protection. Urban bodies, Panchayats, and NGOs have been tasked with organizing special awareness programs across the state.
Shri Sai advised citizens to stay indoors during thunderstorms, keep a distance from trees and electrical poles, and avoid metal objects such as umbrellas, rods, and wires, which attract lightning. He also highlighted the danger of water sources like ponds, rivers, and swimming pools, as electricity can easily spread through water.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister advised against using electronic devices during storms, including computers, phones, and TVs, and recommended turning off internet connections. In situations where safe shelter is unavailable, he suggested crouching with heels together and covering ears to minimize risk.
These proactive measures are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens during unpredictable weather conditions.
