TFP Bureau, Raipur; September 20, 2024: Members of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) in Chhattisgarh’s challenging terrains are experiencing life-changing transformations as they move into permanent homes under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Man Awas Yojana (PM JANMAN Yojana). The scheme, aimed at improving housing and living conditions for backward tribal communities, has brought immense relief and happiness to families like those of Rathio Korwa and Barsati Kamar, who now have secure, concrete homes in Balrampur and Mahasamund districts, respectively.
Expressing their gratitude, Rathio Korwa and Barsati Kamar credited the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Man Awas Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Mahabhiyan for improving their lives. Both shared their appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for prioritizing the welfare of vulnerable tribal communities.
The Chhattisgarh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sai, is working diligently to ensure that essential services, including housing and healthcare, reach PVTG communities. The swift implementation of the PM JANMAN Yojana reflects the state’s commitment to improving the living conditions of tribal populations.
For 42-year-old Rathio Korwa, a resident of Lilauti village in Balrampur district, building a permanent home seemed impossible while supporting her family through farming and daily wage labor. Living in a kutcha house that often succumbed to harsh weather, Rathio never imagined owning a pukka house. Thanks to the PM JANMAN Yojana, Rathio was granted approval for a permanent home, which she constructed with government aid in 2023-24. She also earned wages for her labor through the MNREGA scheme, helping her realize a dream she thought was out of reach.
Similarly, Barsati Kamar from Maroud village in Mahasamund district shared his story of struggle and eventual triumph. A daily wage laborer, Kamar’s kutcha house often flooded during the monsoon, leading to financial strain from constant repairs. His life took a turn when he was selected as a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Man Awas Yojana. With financial aid disbursed in three installments directly to his bank account, Kamar not only built his home but also received additional payments for his work as a skilled laborer. Today, he and his family live securely in their new home, free from the worries of the past.
The rapid progress in constructing homes for PVTG communities, despite the PM Janman Yojana being launched less than a year ago, highlights the government’s dedication to development in tribal areas. With basic facilities being developed swiftly, the Chhattisgarh government is setting an example of how targeted policies can significantly improve the lives of marginalized communities.
