TFP Bureau, Raipur; September 28, 2024: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri C.R. Patil visited a women-led plastic waste management unit at the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial Park in Amlidih village, Rajnandgaon district. The unit, run by local women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), was praised by both leaders for its significant contribution to environmental conservation and economic empowerment.
Chief Minister Sai commended the SHGs for their efforts in recycling plastic waste, calling it a model for sustainable environmental protection. He noted that the initiative not only reduces plastic pollution but also provides employment to women, contributing to their self-reliance and strengthening local economies.
Union Minister Patil emphasized the importance of women’s participation in addressing critical environmental issues. “The women of these SHGs are playing a vital role in tackling the environmental challenges posed by plastic waste,” he said. Patil praised their work, highlighting how recycling efforts help mitigate the harmful effects of plastic on soil, water, air, and animal health.
The plastic waste management unit, located in Gram Panchayat Amlidih within the Dongargarh region, is part of a larger effort to create plastic-free villages. Women, known as “Swachhata Didis,” collect plastic waste from nearby clusters, including Arjuni, Konari, and Amlidih. The waste is sorted, processed, and transformed into plastic blocks, granules, and PP material, which are then sent to Raipur for manufacturing various plastic products, such as chairs, drums, and twine.
This initiative is not only helping to reduce plastic pollution but also generating sustainable employment opportunities for the women involved, showcasing the positive impact of grassroots environmental efforts.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, former MP Shri Pradeep Gandhi, former Zila Panchayat Chairman Shri Dinesh Gandhi, Collector Shri Sanjay Agarwal, SP Shri Mohit Garg, along with other officials and public representatives, were also present during the visit.
