TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 2, 2024: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone for the Bhatgaon Water Supply Scheme, a significant project costing Rs 56.78 crore for the Bhatgaon Nagar Panchayat in Surajpur district. The virtual ceremony took place from Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, in honor of Gandhi Jayanti. The scheme, approved under the Amrit Mission 2.0, is expected to commence shortly, with work slated for completion within the next two years.
Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Arun Saw participated virtually from Bilaspur, alongside local MLAs including Shri Dharamlal Kaushik, Shri Dharamjit Singh, and Shri Sushant Shukla. District Panchayat President Shri Arun Singh Chauhan also joined the events held in New Delhi and Bhatgaon.
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Saw emphasized that the new water supply scheme would resolve the drinking water crisis faced by Bhatgaon residents. He highlighted that clean water from the Mahan River would be treated and delivered directly to homes. Once operational, the scheme will provide 135 liters of water per person per day, significantly improving the current supply of 49 liters.
*Comprehensive Infrastructure to Ensure Clean Water Supply*
The Bhatgaon Water Supply Scheme will include the construction of an intake well at Gonda Anicut on the Mahan River, where surface water will be purified at a newly proposed water purification plant. The project will also feature a water purification facility with a capacity of two million liters per day (MLD), three high-level reservoirs with a combined capacity of 750 kiloliters, and a 64-kilometer distribution pipeline. A total of 3,586 private tap connections will be provided, ensuring that clean drinking water reaches households across the Nagar Panchayat.
The work order for this ambitious project was issued in August, and the government is committed to completing it within 24 months. Deputy Chief Minister Saw directed officials to maintain high-quality standards throughout the construction process, emphasizing the state’s responsibility for the development of Chhattisgarh.
