TFP Bureau. Raipur; October 06, 2024—The two-day Jal Jagar Maha Utsav in Gangrel aimed to foster community engagement and awareness around water conservation. The event included a Jal Sabha held near the Ravishankar Reservoir, about 14 km from Dhamtari.
On the first day, school children actively participated in a mock Gram Sabha, where they passed resolutions related to water conservation. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai attended and commended their enthusiasm and awareness. The children reported the formation of a drinking water and sanitation committee in their village, highlighting efforts to address water quality issues, such as marking contaminated hand pumps.
Class XII student Falguni Sahu shared that the Gram Sabha proposed repairing taps, arranging sanitation vehicles, deepening ponds, and establishing rainwater harvesting systems. The Chief Minister praised these initiatives for promoting water conservation and hygiene.
On the second day, college students took on roles within the Jal Sabha, engaging in discussions about water’s role in civilization, environmental conservation, and future challenges. Fifty students assumed positions including Chief Minister, various ministers, and opposition leaders, facilitating a robust debate on raising public awareness regarding water and environmental issues.
Consensus was reached among participants on the importance of community involvement in water conservation, marking the event as a successful step towards ensuring clean water and sustainable forests for future generations.
