All India Forest Sports Competition Inaugurated in Raipur

Over 2,900 athletes to compete in the five-day event, showcasing Chhattisgarh’s commitment to sports and conservation

TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 16, 2024:  The All India Forest Sports Competition began with a grand inauguration at the Swami Vivekananda Athletic Stadium in Raipur. The event, featuring a colorful march past by participants from across the country in traditional attire, was graced by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who commended the Forest Department’s dedication in organizing the competition.

Union Forest Minister Bhupendra Yadav addressed the gathering virtually, stressing the essential role forest workers play in conservation and the importance of maintaining physical fitness to perform their duties. He urged participants to uphold sportsmanship and deliver their best performances.

Chief Minister Sai highlighted the history of the competition, which began in 1992 and has since grown into a national event, attracting participants from across India. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in promoting sports and reiterated Chhattisgarh’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent.

Bihar Forest Minister Dr. Prem Kumar emphasized the critical need for awareness of forest and wildlife conservation, applauding Chhattisgarh for hosting this year’s event and showcasing its rich natural heritage.

Chhattisgarh Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap announced that Chhattisgarh secured first place in the last competition held in Haryana and expressed confidence in the state’s performance this year. He highlighted the importance of the competition in spreading environmental awareness and encouraging forest conservation efforts.

Indian T-20 cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav praised Chhattisgarh’s conservation initiatives and underscored the role of discipline in both sports and environmental stewardship.

This year marks Chhattisgarh’s third time hosting the competition, which will see athletes compete in 300 disciplines across 26 sports over five days, from October 16 to 20. More than 2,920 players, including 2,331 men and 585 women, are participating. The Chhattisgarh team, with 268 athletes, aims to secure the overall championship for the 12th time, having won the title 11 times previously.

Chhattisgarh’s march past performance earned first place, followed by Himachal Pradesh and Assam, which received consolation prizes.

The inauguration was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, along with numerous ministers, senior officials, and a large crowd of spectators.
