TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 26, 2024 — The Chhattisgarh government is set to roll out three new welfare schemes to support the state’s 28 lakh construction workers and their families. The decision was approved during the third Board of Directors meeting, chaired by Labor Minister and Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman, Shri Lakhan Lal Devangan, at the Mandal office in Nava Raipur.
The Atal Utkrisht Shiksha Yojana, a program to enroll children of construction workers in top schools across the state, is scheduled to launch on November 1, in honor of State Foundation Day. Additionally, the Nirman Mazdoor Parivar Sashaktikaran Yojana will provide free coaching for competitive exams like IIT, JEE, NEET, and CA, benefiting both registered construction workers and their children. A skill upgrade initiative is also planned to equip workers and their children with enhanced vocational training.
The meeting, attended by Labor Department Secretary Alarmel Mangai D, Special Finance Secretary Sheetal Verma, BOC Secretary Savita Mishra, Chief Inspector and Labor Commissioner SS Paikara, and other officials, also discussed expanding ongoing welfare initiatives.
Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Shram Anna Yojana Expands
Shri Devangan directed the implementation of the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Shram Anna Yojana across all districts. Currently operating in 33 centers within nine districts, the program provides nutritious meals to workers and will soon be available statewide.
Free Health Checkups for Workers and Families
A decision was also made to offer free health checkups for construction workers and their families, a move that will benefit over 26 lakh individuals. The health screenings will be conducted in collaboration with the Health Department and ESIC.
Financial Assistance for Unregistered Worker Fatalities
The Board approved a new provision to extend financial support to the families of unregistered construction workers who die in workplace accidents. Under the Chief Minister Nirman Shramik Death and Disabled Assistance Scheme, registered workers’ families receive up to Rs 5 lakh for accidental death and Rs 2.5 lakh for permanent disability. The latest amendment provides Rs 1 lakh in assistance to families of unregistered workers. This decision was made following the recent death of Parmanand Dhruv, an unregistered construction worker from Mahasamund, who tragically died in a workplace accident. His family will receive Rs 1 lakh in aid.
