Vedanta’s Balco Medical Centre Leads Breast Cancer Awareness with ‘Sharm Chhodo, Ganthon Pe Bolo’ Campaign

Comprehensive initiative promotes early detection and open conversation on breast health through screenings, rallies, and community outreach

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, November 1, 2024:  Vedanta’s Balco Medical Centre (BMC), a leading cancer hospital in India, marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the launch of its impactful campaign, “Sharm Chhodo, Ganthon Pe Bolo,” aimed at encouraging early breast cancer detection and reducing stigma around the disease. Through a variety of outreach activities, BMC has worked to foster open discussions on breast health, bringing crucial awareness and screening services to communities.

As part of this campaign, BMC organized free mammography screenings, health check-ups, a bike rally, educational podcasts, and mobile screening camps to reach as many women as possible. Throughout October, BMC provided free mammograms, emphasizing the importance of regular breast health screening for early detection. The mobile cancer detection van reached rural areas, offering screenings to women over 45 and educating them on self-examination practices.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Bike Rally saw around 270 riders from 10 biking groups participate, symbolizing community solidarity in the fight against breast cancer. The event concluded with a tree-planting activity, reinforcing hope and growth in support of breast cancer awareness. The campaign’s highlights, along with expert-led educational videos, were shared widely on social media to reach even broader audiences.

Dr. Bhavana Sirohi, Medical Director of BMC, emphasized the campaign’s mission, stating, “With ‘Sharm Chhodo, Ganthon Pe Bolo,’ we aim to break the silence surrounding breast health, enabling women to recognize early symptoms and seek help without hesitation. Open discussions and accessible screenings are vital to saving lives through early detection, improving outcomes for women affected by breast cancer.”

Dr. Sirohi also engaged BMC staff in a town hall discussion, emphasizing their role in patient care, with employees dressed in pink to show solidarity. BMC’s commitment to holistic cancer care has earned it a leading position in oncology since 2018, and this campaign reinforces its dedication to proactive healthcare.

Through screenings, community events, and educational outreach, BMC has empowered people to prioritize their health, making strides in breast cancer awareness and encouraging a healthier future for all.
