Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai Kicks Off Chhattisgarh’s State-Wide Paddy Procurement Mega Festival

Farmers begin selling paddy at support prices; Cooperative Bank building inaugurated in Mohndipat

TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 14, 2024: Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai launched Chhattisgarh’s state-wide Paddy Procurement Mega Festival today from the Bhantgaon (B) procurement center in Balod district, marking the start of the season for paddy procurement at support prices. The initiative, which will run until January 31, 2025, aims to provide farmers with fair compensation for their harvest.

During his visit to the procurement center, Chief Minister Sai conducted a ceremonial worship of the electronic weighing scales and other equipment, symbolizing the state’s commitment to supporting its farmers. He welcomed the gathered farmers with garlands, extending his congratulations and well wishes for the festival’s success.

Among the farmers present, Shri Bhagbali from Bhatgaon sold 148 quintals, and Shri Hariram sold 65 quintals and 20 kg of paddy, expressing their joy at participating in this inaugural event with the Chief Minister. A total of six farmers registered to sell paddy at the Bhantgaon (B) center on opening day.

In addition to launching the festival, Chief Minister Sai inaugurated a new branch of the District Service Cooperative Central Bank in Mohndipat village, Gunderdehi development block. Constructed at a cost of Rs 30 lakh, the new branch aims to strengthen financial services in the rural area. The Chief Minister also paid homage to Chhattisgarh’s heritage by garlanding an oil painting of Chhattisgarh Mahtari and lighting ceremonial lamps before portraits of Shaheed Birsa Munda and Gahira Guru.

Under this program, Chhattisgarh will purchase paddy from registered farmers across 2,739 centers. The government has committed to direct payment into farmers’ bank accounts within 72 hours of procurement. This year, 27,01,109 farmers, including 1,35,891 new registrants, have sown paddy over 34,51,729 hectares, ensuring a robust season for procurement.

The inauguration was attended by dignitaries including MP Bhojraj Nag, MLA Kunwar Singh Nishad, District Panchayat President Sonadevi Deshlhara, former MLAs Birendra Sahu and Rajendra Rai, State President of Kanwar Samaj Harbansh Miri, and senior public representatives from various communities. Many farmers and villagers gathered to witness the event, reflecting the significance of the festival for Chhattisgarh’s rural community.
