TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 14, 2024: The Chhattisgarh government, led by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, has secured Rs 230 crore in funding from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to enhance solid waste management across urban areas. This significant allocation under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) will support infrastructure and technical upgrades in municipal corporations, municipalities, and Nagar Panchayats throughout the state.
Chief Minister Sai expressed gratitude to the central government, stating, “This funding will strengthen the Swachh Bharat Mission in our cities, helping to transform each urban area into a cleaner, healthier environment.” The initiative aims to mobilize resources and improve waste collection, disposal, and treatment systems, addressing both cleanliness and environmental standards across Chhattisgarh.
Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Arun Sao played a pivotal role in securing this funding, having met with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Shri Manohar Lal during a recent visit to New Delhi to advocate for financial support. Following discussions, the Union Ministry approved the proposal submitted by Chhattisgarh’s Urban Administration Department, acknowledging the need for comprehensive waste management reforms.
The Rs 230 crore fund will support key infrastructure improvements, including physical, technical, and human resources, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of waste management systems across all urban bodies. This enhancement is expected to yield significant improvements in public health, sanitation, and environmental conditions for urban residents.
This initiative marks a substantial step forward in Chhattisgarh’s commitment to sustainable urban development and aligns with the state’s broader goals for enhancing urban infrastructure and public services.
