Chhattisgarh Announces Cash Rewards for Olympic Medalists

State pledges Rs 3 crore for gold, Rs 2 crore for silver, and Rs 1 crore for bronze; CM emphasizes commitment to nurturing sports talent.

TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 17, 2024: The Chhattisgarh government has unveiled an ambitious incentive program for athletes, with cash rewards of Rs 3 crore for Olympic gold medalists, Rs 2 crore for silver, and Rs 1 crore for bronze, announced Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the CM Trophy India International Challenge Badminton Competition 2024, held at the iSports Badminton Arena in Mowa, Raipur, the Chief Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing its athletes.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve sports infrastructure and opportunities, Shri Sai emphasized the transformative power of sports, stating, “Sports make the youth emotionally strong, positive, and energetic. They inspire discipline and foster unity.”

He commended the state’s talented athletes, including badminton prodigy Ritika Dhruv from Dhamtari, who has excelled despite financial hardships. “Ritika’s story is an inspiration. Her resilience is remarkable, and we are committed to supporting her journey,” said the Chief Minister.

Another highlight was the government’s financial support for mountaineer Nisha, who aspires to scale Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest. Shri Sai announced an allocation of Rs 4.75 lakh to aid her expeditions.

The event, which showcased top-tier badminton talent, saw the men’s doubles title go to champions Shri Hariharan and Shri Ruban Kumar. CM Shri Sai congratulated the winners and thanked participants, organizers, and international players for their contribution to the tournament’s success.

The closing ceremony was attended by Chhattisgarh Badminton Association President Mr. Vikram Sisodia, General Secretary Mr. Sanjay Mishra, and a large gathering of sports enthusiasts, underscoring the growing momentum behind the state’s sports initiatives.
