TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 5, 2024: To ensure the smooth procurement of paddy at support prices in Chhattisgarh, the state government is rigorously monitoring every aspect of the process, from token issuance to paddy payment. Following the directives of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, strict oversight is being applied across procurement centers, ensuring the availability of gunny bags, timely payments, and lifting of paddy.
A double facility has been introduced for farmers to apply for tokens for paddy sale. Farmers can apply through the *Token Tunhar Hath* app or, in case of difficulties, via operators at the procurement committee. As of December 5, 29.22 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have been procured at 2,739 centers, with over 6 lakh farmers having sold paddy at the support price. The state government has already released Rs 6,728 crore for these purchases, with funds regularly transferred to the farmers’ accounts.
Token System and Accessibility for Farmers
To streamline the process, 40% of token applications are being handled through the committee module, and 60% through the app. Farmers can choose the date of paddy sale, with slots available until January 15, 2025. Small and marginal farmers are allocated 2 tokens, while large farmers receive 3 tokens each. This dual-access system ensures ease for farmers, especially those facing technological difficulties.
Use of Gunny Bags and Payment to Farmers
A key part of the procurement process is the use of gunny bags. The state has arranged for 72,194 bundles of gunny bags, including PDS, Miller, and Kisan varieties. Due to the special circumstances, the government has provided Rs 11 crore 23 lakh to Apex Bank for payments of Rs 25 per gunny bag to farmers providing their own bags. A balanced mix of new and old gunny bags is being used, with adequate supplies available at the centers.
Progress on Paddy Milling and Illegal Transportation
Meanwhile, the milling and transportation of procured paddy is progressing in parallel. As of now, 865 millers have applied for registration, with 252 rice mills successfully registered for custom milling. Over 2.5 lakh tonnes of paddy have been moved to collection centers where needed. Strict monitoring is also being carried out to curb illegal transportation, with 33,054 quintals of paddy seized and 3,305 cases registered. Checkposts have been set up in border districts to prevent any unlawful activities related to paddy.
Through these comprehensive measures, Chhattisgarh’s paddy procurement process aims to ensure fair practices, transparency, and timely payments to farmers, contributing to the welfare of the agricultural community in the state.
