Raipur-Ambikapur-Bilaspur Air Service Launched: A Boost to Chhattisgarh’s Connectivity and Tourism

Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai calls it a historic milestone in regional development

TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 19,2024:  In a landmark event, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai inaugurated the Raipur-Ambikapur-Bilaspur Air Service at Swami Vivekananda Airport, calling it a historic step towards the development of Chhattisgarh. The initiative aims to strengthen regional air connectivity while boosting tourism and economic activity in the state.

During the launch, Chief Minister Sai highlighted the affordable initial fare of ₹999, emphasizing that it makes air travel accessible to the common man. “This reflects the transformational vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who envisioned making air travel affordable for all, including those who wear ‘air slippers.’ Today, that dream has become a reality,” he said.

The Chief Minister noted that the new service will improve connectivity to remote regions like Surguja and Bastar, enhancing tourism to iconic destinations such as Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve, Ramgarh hills, and the majestic Chitrakote Falls, often referred to as the “Niagara of Asia.” Additionally, the state government has invested ₹80 crore in developing Ambikapur’s Maa Mahamaya Airport, which now holds a 3C VFR category license, making it suitable for operating ATR-72 aircraft.

Work is also underway to connect Ambikapur with major cities like Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Delhi, and Kolkata. The government is actively promoting eco-tourism and local enterprise opportunities, including homestays and resorts, under its new industrial policy, creating jobs for youth and fostering investment.

Chief Minister Sai expressed optimism for the future, stating, “Our goal is to elevate Chhattisgarh to new heights in aviation over the next four years. With natural beauty, historical heritage, and immense tourism potential, we aim to attract both domestic and international visitors.”

The inaugural flight was marked by a celebratory water salute. MP Chintamani Maharaj and his spouse became the first passengers of the new route, with Chief Minister Sai personally presenting the boarding pass and congratulating them on making history.

Also present at the ceremony were MLAs Rajesh Aggarwal, Prabodh Minj, and Ramkumar Toppo, along with officials including Secretary to the Chief Minister Basavraju, Director of the Aviation Department Sanjeev Jha, and Fly Big CMD Sanjay Mandavia. The service will be operated by Fly Big Charter Company using 19-seater twin-engine aircraft, with plans for further expansion.

As the new year approaches, the Chief Minister urged citizens to take advantage of the new air service to explore the natural beauty of Surguja and contribute to the state’s growing tourism economy.
