TFP Bureau, New Delhi, December 27, 2024: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s leader from 2004 to 2014, passed away at the age of 92. According to reports, his health deteriorated suddenly late Thursday night, and he was rushed to the emergency ward of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, where he breathed his last.
AIIMS Delhi issued a medical bulletin early Friday morning confirming the news of his demise. Security outside the hospital has been heightened in anticipation of public and political leaders gathering to pay their respects.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, a renowned economist and statesman, is credited with ushering in economic reforms during his tenure as Finance Minister in the Narasimha Rao government. He also held key roles as Finance Secretary and later served as a Rajya Sabha member for 33 years before retiring earlier this year.
Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister is remembered for significant economic growth and policy reforms, as well as challenges like the global financial crisis of 2008. Tributes are pouring in from across the political spectrum for the man who shaped India’s economic trajectory.
