Indian Railways Announces New Rules for Tatkal Ticket Booking Starting January 2025

Updated Guidelines to Enhance Convenience and Transparency for Passengers

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 5, 2025: In a bid to improve passenger convenience and streamline the booking process, Indian Railways has implemented significant changes to the Tatkal ticket booking system. The revised rules, which came into effect on January 1, 2025, aim to provide better accessibility and clarity for travelers.

Tatkal tickets, which allow passengers to book tickets on short notice, offer higher chances of securing a confirmed seat. The service is available for both AC and Non-AC classes and can be booked online via the IRCTC website or mobile app. The new guidelines aim to simplify the process and make it more user-friendly, while ensuring transparency.

Key Changes in Tatkal Ticket Booking Rules-

Booking Times Adjusted: The booking window for AC class Tatkal tickets will now open at 10:00 AM, while the Non-AC class tickets will be available from 11:00 AM.
Passenger Limits: A maximum of 4 passengers can be booked under a single PNR.
Mandatory ID Proof: Valid identification, such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, or driving license, will be required at the time of booking.
Priority to Online Booking: Passengers are encouraged to book tickets through the IRCTC website or app, which will now be given priority.
Refund Policy Update: Refunds will only be applicable in cases where the train is canceled or delayed by more than 3 hours.

Tatkal tickets, though providing a quick travel option, come with certain limitations, including a higher fare than regular tickets, limited availability, and no refunds under most circumstances. The service is intended for those needing immediate travel arrangements but can come at a premium cost.
