Election Commission Assures EVM Security, Urges Respectful Campaigning

TFP Bureau, New Delhi; January7,2025: The Delhi Assembly Elections will take place on February 5, 2025, with results to be declared on February 8. A total of 70 seats are up for grabs, with the majority threshold set at 36. These elections will be held in a single phase, giving voters across the city the opportunity to cast their ballots and determine the next legislative assembly.

The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, has emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum during the election campaign. Kumar advised political parties to ensure that their campaigns avoid the use of foul language, especially towards women, underscoring the need for a respectful and inclusive electoral process.

In his address, Rajiv Kumar also assured the public regarding the security and reliability of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), stating that there is no evidence of flaws or manipulation in the devices. “There is no question of viruses or bugs in the EVMs, nor any possibility of illegal votes or rigging,” he confirmed, ensuring voters of the integrity of the election process.

The election schedule is as follows:
– Notification date: 10 January 2025
– Last date for filing nominations: 17 January 2025
– Scrutiny of nominations: 18 January 2025
– Last date for withdrawal of nominations: 20 January 2025
– Voting date: 5 February 2025

Voter demographics reveal a total of 54.24 crore eligible voters, with 85.49 million male voters and 71.74 million female voters. The Election Commission has also confirmed that more than 13,000 polling booths will be set up across the city to facilitate the smooth conduct of the elections.
