TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 7, 2025: The Chhattisgarh Health Department is fully prepared to address the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), commonly seen in winters, as confirmed cases emerge in parts of the country. Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, in an important meeting held at Mantralaya Nava Raipur, assured the public that the state’s health system is equipped to manage any emergencies related to the virus.
Minister Jaiswal emphasized that while there is no need to panic, it is important to remain vigilant. “Our expert teams are closely monitoring the situation and studying the virus’s symptoms and effects. The Health Department, strengthened by its experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, is well-prepared to handle this challenge,” he stated. He urged citizens to practice cleanliness and follow preventive measures to curb the virus’s spread.
Guidelines to Prevent HMPV Infection
The Health Department has shared tips to prevent the spread of the virus:
– Avoid crowded places and contact with individuals showing symptoms of cold, cough, or fever.
– Seek medical advice immediately if symptoms such as fever, cough, or breathing difficulties arise.
– Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or handkerchief when coughing or sneezing.
– Maintain hand hygiene by regularly washing with soap or using sanitizer.
– Stay home when unwell, drink plenty of water, and eat nutritious food.
What Not to Do
– Avoid reusing tissues during illness.
– Do not touch your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth, frequently.
– Avoid spitting in public spaces.
– Do not take any medications without consulting a doctor.
HMPV, a common respiratory virus that spreads through droplets from coughing or sneezing, handshakes, or contact with contaminated surfaces, causes cold, cough, fever, and breathing difficulties. In severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia or bronchitis.
The minister assured that all necessary precautions and awareness campaigns are being implemented across the state to prevent an outbreak. “We have faced similar challenges before and emerged stronger. Together, we will manage this situation effectively,” he said.
The Health Department has urged citizens to stay informed and take preventive measures to safeguard their health during the winter season.
