TFP Bureau, Prayagraj, January 14, 2025: On the sacred occasion of Makar Sankranti, more than 3.5 crore devotees participated in the first ‘Amrit Snan’ by 5:30 PM at the Maha Kumbh 2025. The holy dip at the Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati converge, marked a significant moment of faith and spirituality. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the event as a reflection of India’s unity and cultural diversity.
The Maha Kumbh drew not only Indian pilgrims but also international participants from countries such as the United States, France, Israel, Iran, and Portugal. Visitors expressed awe at the profound spirituality and cultural richness of the festival.
To ensure safety, over 50,000 security personnel, including police and paramilitary forces, were stationed across the Mela grounds. Local security teams worked alongside ‘Ganga Seva Doots’ (volunteers), who maintained cleanliness at the ghats by removing offerings and waste from the river promptly.
This year’s Maha Kumbh also saw the first-ever celebration of Assam’s traditional festival, Bhogali Bihu, within its premises. Assamese saints and devotees led cultural programmes featuring traditional dances, hymns, and rice-based delicacies, offering a vibrant showcase of Northeast India’s heritage.
A variety of cultural events further enriched the festival, with artists from across India performing folk music and dance, highlighting the nation’s diversity. The administration ensured essential facilities for attendees, including free medical services, drinking water, and transportation.
