TFP Bureau, New Delhi, January 15, 2025: At the confluence of India’s sacred rivers—the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati—an extraordinary cultural experience is unfolding. Kalagram, inaugurated on January 12, 2025, during Mahakumbh 2025, stands as a celebration of India’s rich heritage, offering a sensory journey into the heart of the nation’s traditions, art, and cuisine.
Located in the sprawling 10-acre Nagavasuki area of Prayagraj, Kalagram is not just an exhibition but an immersive cultural experience, blending the timeless with the contemporary. Curated by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, it highlights three core elements: Craft, Cuisine, and Culture. Through this vibrant space, Kalagram brings together regional artisans, performers, and culinary masters, creating a living testament to India’s diverse cultural legacy.
A Grand Welcome to India’s Heritage
Upon entering Kalagram, visitors are greeted by an awe-inspiring entrance façade—a 35-foot-wide, 54-foot-high masterpiece depicting sacred stories of India, including the 12 Jyotirlingas and Lord Shiva’s legendary act of consuming Halahal. This architectural marvel sets the tone for a profound cultural experience that awaits within.
A Journey Through India’s Diverse Regions
Inside Kalagram, seven specially designed Sanskriti Aangans represent different regions of India, each inspired by iconic temples such as Kolkata’s Dakshineswar Kali Temple and Pushkar’s Brahma Mandir. These zones are filled with regional crafts, from Bengal’s Pattachitra paintings to Tamil Nadu’s Tanjore art, and showcase the talent of 230 master artisans whose creations span generations of craftsmanship.
Art and Performances That Captivate the Soul
Kalagram’s ambiance resonates with the performances of 15,000 artists, who showcase India’s classical music, folk dances, and theater. The performances—curated by renowned institutions such as Sangeet Natak Akademi—range from the elegance of Kathak to the energy of Bhangra. Additionally, theatrical productions by the National School of Drama and celebrity performances ensure that each visit offers new discoveries.
An Immersive Experience: Ganga’s Celestial Descent
One of Kalagram’s standout features is the Anubhuti Mandapam, where visitors experience the celestial descent of the Ganga to Earth in an immersive 360-degree show. This captivating display uses state-of-the-art technology to transport guests into the heart of the mythological story, offering a truly unforgettable experience.
History Comes Alive in the Exhibition Zone
The Aviral Shashvat Kumbh Zone, in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India, takes visitors on a scholarly journey through the legacy of the Mahakumbh. Artifacts, digital exhibits, and historical insights provide a deeper understanding of this UNESCO-recognized heritage.
Celestial Nights and Satvik Delights
Beyond cultural immersion, Kalagram offers moments of connection with the cosmos during special Astro Nights, where visitors can stargaze and reflect under the open sky. Meanwhile, the Satvik Flavors of India zone serves 28 varieties of satvik cuisine, featuring local delicacies and signature dishes from across India, prepared with utmost purity.
Engage, Explore, and Be Inspired
Kalagram also invites visitors to engage through various activities, including photography contests by the Lalit Kala Akademi and documentary screenings produced by the IGNCA. Each corner of Kalagram pulses with opportunities for learning, creating, and inspiration.
A Call to the World
Kalagram is more than a cultural display—it’s an invitation to experience India’s soul. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, an art lover, a foodie, or simply seeking inspiration, Kalagram promises an unforgettable journey that connects you to India’s enduring spirit. It’s a celebration of the country’s past, present, and future, offering visitors a deeper connection to its vibrant culture and traditions.
