Code of Conduct Enforced; Urban Elections Through EVMs, Panchayat Polls in Three Phases

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 20, 2025: The code of conduct has come into force in Chhattisgarh as preparations for urban body and three-tier panchayat elections get underway. The elections aim to form the government at the city and village levels, with the entire process scheduled to conclude before the state board examinations.

Urban Body Elections Details:
The elections for urban local bodies, including municipal corporations, councils, and Nagar Panchayats, will be conducted in a single phase through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Nomination Begins: January 22, 2025
Last Date for Nomination: January 28, 2025
Withdrawal of Candidature: January 31, 2025
Voting Date: February 11, 2025
Counting of Votes: February 15, 2025

Key Highlights:
– 10 Municipal Corporations
– 49 Municipal Councils
– 114 Nagar Panchayats

Three-Tier Panchayat Elections:
The three-tier panchayat elections will see people’s representatives elected in three phases. Voting will be held at the Zila Panchayat, Janpad Panchayat, and Gram Panchayat levels.

Nomination Begins: January 27, 2025
Last Date for Nomination: February 3, 2025
Voting Dates: February 17, 20, and 23, 2025
Counting:Votes will be counted immediately after each phase of polling.

New Features and Key Data

  • The state has a total of 78,20,202 registered urban voters and 79,92,184 rural voters.
  • Measures such as “NOTA” (None of the Above) and multi-vote options will be available, ensuring flexibility for voters.
  • The Election Commission has emphasized strict adherence to the model code of conduct from today onwards.
