Municipal General Election 2025: Nominations Filed for Key Positions

Over 10,000 candidates vie for councilor positions across Chhattisgarh; voting set for February 11

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 30, 2025: A total of 109 candidates have filed their nominations for the position of Mayor in the 10 municipal corporations of Chhattisgarh, while 816 candidates are competing for the role of Chairman in various Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. An impressive 10,776 candidates have also registered for councilor positions in these urban bodies. These nominations were submitted by the deadline of January 28, marking the end of the nomination phase for the Municipal General Election 2025.

The elections will take place in 10 Municipal Corporations, 49 Municipal Councils, and 114 Nagar Panchayats across the state. The Chhattisgarh State Election Commission had announced the election dates on January 20, with the nomination process beginning on January 22. Nominations can still be withdrawn until January 31, with the final candidate list and election symbol allotments scheduled for the same day.

The voting for the elections is set to occur on February 11, with the counting of votes and the declaration of results slated for February 15.

The 10 Municipal Corporations where elections are being held include major cities like Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Jagdalpur. Additionally, elections will also take place for chairpersons and councilors in 49 Municipal Councils and 114 Nagar Panchayats, covering a wide array of regions across the state.

By-elections will be held for 5 wards across four urban bodies, including Municipal Corporations Bhilai and Risali, as well as the Municipal Council of Konta in Bastar Division.

The total number of urban bodies in Chhattisgarh is 192, with elections planned for 19 bodies in 2026, including Municipal Corporations Birgaon, Bhilai, and Risali, among others.
