Governor and Chief Minister Advocate for Youth Empowerment and Agricultural Innovation at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University’s 10th Convocation Ceremony

Governor Shri Ramen Deka emphasizes the importance of quality education and agriculture for a prosperous future; Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai highlights the role of youth in shaping a developed Chhattisgarh.

TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 1, 2025: The 10th convocation of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur, celebrated the achievements of 4,200 students who received degrees, including 16 gold, 18 silver, and 4 bronze medals for their outstanding academic performances. The ceremony, held in the university’s auditorium, was attended by distinguished guests including Governor Shri Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Agriculture Minister Shri Ram Vichar Netam, and Dr. Wanga Shiva Reddy, former Director General of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi.

Governor Shri Ramen Deka, in his address, emphasized the pivotal role of education in shaping the future of the nation’s youth. He noted that with about 30 crore children and youth in India, providing them with quality food, education, and skill development is a priority. Highlighting the National Education Policy 2020, which integrates skill development alongside academic degrees, Shri Deka remarked that the youth will be instrumental in making India a $5 trillion economy. He urged students to use their education for the welfare and development of society, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Governor Deka also paid tribute to the contributions of agricultural pioneers, including Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, and stressed the importance of self-reliance in agriculture. He called for innovation in agricultural practices to address challenges like climate change and market volatility, urging university scientists to develop cost-effective solutions that boost farmers’ incomes.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, while acknowledging the significant role of youth in the country’s progress, expressed his belief that with the energy and talent of the youth, Chhattisgarh would achieve its vision of becoming a developed state. He highlighted that science and technology should be harnessed for the betterment of society, and that the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University would play a crucial role in advancing agricultural development in the state. The Chief Minister also celebrated the university’s achievements, particularly its contributions to combating climate change and improving food security through advanced agricultural research.

The ceremony also featured speeches by Agriculture Minister Shri Ram Vichar Netam and Dr. Wanga Shiva Reddy, who shared insights on the importance of innovation in agriculture and the role of research in shaping the future of farming.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. Girish Chandel, presented the convocation report, showcasing the institution’s remarkable contributions to agricultural research and education. With over 160 crop varieties developed and a network of research centers across the state, the university continues to play a vital role in transforming the agricultural landscape of Chhattisgarh.

The event concluded with the presentation of degrees and medals to students and a vote of thanks by the University Registrar. The ceremony was attended by faculty, students, and their families, celebrating the bright future ahead for these graduates in contributing to the agricultural and societal advancement of the nation.
