TFP Bureau Raipur, January 2025: The second batch of the Capacity Building Program on New Criminal Law Reforms for Chhattisgarh Police Officers, organized by Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh Police, successfully concluded Friday with a valedictory ceremony at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose State Police Academy in Chandkhuri, Raipur.
The ceremony was addressed by Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan, who emphasized the vital role of technology in modern law enforcement. He stressed that integrating law and technology is essential for effective policing and maintaining public safety. Prof. Vivekanandan reaffirmed HNLU’s commitment to continuing such training programs to equip officers with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to uphold justice.
Dr. Ratan Lal Dangi (IPS), Director of the State Police Academy, praised the officers for their dedication and encouraged them to apply their newly acquired skills in their work while also mentoring junior officers. Dr. Abhishek Pallava (IPS), Superintendent of Police at the Academy, highlighted the importance of such training initiatives in keeping police officers up to date with the latest criminal laws and investigative techniques.
The 10-day training program featured esteemed resource persons, including HNLU professors, practicing advocates, prosecution officers, and retired judicial officers. These experts provided comprehensive insights into the practical implementation of the new criminal laws. Dr. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Registrar of HNLU, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing appreciation to the dignitaries, participants, and resource persons.
The program also recognized officers who excelled, particularly those who stood out during role-play exercises that simulated real-world police investigation procedures. A group photograph concluded the ceremony, marking the successful completion of the second batch.
The ongoing Capacity Building Program, which is part of a collaborative initiative launched in May 2024, aims to train over 1,000 police officers. The third phase of the program is specifically designed for ASPs, DSPs, and Inspectors, and is conducted in six batches, with each batch consisting of 150 officers. The first batch was held from 20th to 24th January, followed by the second batch from 27th to 31st January 2025.
This initiative stems from the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between HNLU Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan and Chhattisgarh DGP Shri Ashok Juneja in March 2024. The program aims to enhance legal knowledge and practical skills among police officers to strengthen law enforcement across the state.
The training programs are being coordinated by Dr. Deepak Srivastava, Registrar I/c of HNLU, along with Mr. Abhinav K Shukla, Faculty at HNLU, Dr. Pankaj Shukla, Additional Superintendent of Police, and Mr. Shubham Tomar, Prosecution Officer at the State Police Academy.
