TFP Bureau, Raipur, 1 February 2025: The DPIIT-IPR Chair at Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation and IP Laws, successfully organized a one-day colloquium titled “Social Media and Entertainment: Whose IP is it Anyway?” The event provided an in-depth exploration of intellectual property (IP) issues, including ownership, enforcement, rights, and liabilities, within the fast-evolving sectors of social media, digital entertainment, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Inaugural Session:
The colloquium kicked off with a thought-provoking address by Prof. V.C. Vivekanandan, Vice Chancellor of HNLU. He spoke on how technological advancements over the last century have shifted the entertainment paradigm, creating an elite class of performers while reducing audiences to passive consumers. He highlighted that social media has disrupted this model, empowering individuals to become creators and challenging traditional IP jurisprudence.
Mr. Raghvender, the Chief Guest, emphasized the speed at which creativity is generated and disseminated on social media, raising complex IP challenges. Ms. Arrpita Bhatt, Legal Counsel, also provided insights into the critical issues surrounding data sharing and privacy on digital platforms. The session concluded with remarks from Dr. Deepak Srivastav, Registrar In-charge, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Debmita Mondal.
Panel Discussion on IP Ownership in the Digital Age:
A key panel discussion delved into the topic “Determining IP Ownership of Social Media Creative Content and AI-Generated Content: Legal, Ethical, and Policy Decisions.” The panelists explored legal frameworks governing user-generated content (UGC) and AI-produced works, discussing the evolving landscape of IP in the digital age.

Paper Presentations & Awards:
In the post-lunch session, faculty members and research scholars presented their papers, offering valuable perspectives on contemporary IP challenges in digital content creation. The Best Paper Award was presented to Mr. Sarthak Khandelwal and Ms. Arshiya Chauhan, LL.M. Scholars from NLU Delhi. Dr. Ankit Singh, IP Chair In-charge, coordinated the event, ensuring its smooth execution.
The colloquium successfully brought together experts, legal professionals, and scholars to discuss the intersection of intellectual property, digital content creation, and emerging technologies, underscoring the need for updated legal frameworks to address the challenges posed by the digital era.
