Congress Releases Manifesto for Urban Body Elections, Promises Key Initiatives for Urban Development

TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 5, 2025: The Congress party unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming urban body elections, focusing on several key initiatives aimed at improving urban living standards across Chhattisgarh. State Congress President Deepak Baij, along with Manifesto Committee Convenor Satyanarayan Sharma, released the document at Rajiv Bhawan in Raipur. Senior party leaders, including Leader of Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant and former Deputy Chief Minister T.S. Singhdev, were present at the event in Ambikapur.

In a detailed address, the Congress party outlined a series of promises targeting urban areas, emphasizing safety, infrastructure, and citizen services. Key proposals included the beautification and conservation of ponds, the installation of CCTV cameras at key locations for women’s safety, and the introduction of changing rooms for women at ghats and ponds.

The manifesto also detailed plans for better parking facilities, the establishment of free libraries for competitive exam preparations, and the regularization of irregular employees in corporations. Additionally, Congress pledged to simplify housing allotments, provide free water tankers for public events, and make online services like building permits available in all areas.

Further, the manifesto proposed enhanced social welfare measures, including increasing the Shraddhanjali Rashi Yojana for BPL cardholders, ensuring pension facilities for the elderly and destitute, and offering free sanitary napkins to school and college girls. Youth employment would also be prioritized through the creation of youth hubs and support for women’s self-help groups.

The party also promised to address issues like waste management, stray animals, and the creation of designated spaces for mobile vendors. The manifesto outlines a vision of more transparent governance, with clear timelines for project completion and a focus on community participation.

The release of the manifesto was followed by widespread support from Congress leaders across the state, signaling the party’s commitment to transforming urban governance in Chhattisgarh.
