TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 7, 2025: In a proactive effort to address vehicular pollution, the Chhattisgarh government has announced the establishment of Pollution Under Control (PUC) testing centers at petrol pumps across the state. This initiative, in collaboration with major petroleum companies, is set to simplify the pollution certification process, ensuring better compliance and contributing to improved air quality.
The decision was made following a directive from Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on February 4, 2025, highlighting the need for easy and efficient pollution monitoring. Acting swiftly, senior officials including Transport Secretary Shri S. Prakash and Additional Transport Commissioner Shri D. Ravishankar convened a high-level meeting on February 7, 2025, with representatives from Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Reliance Industries.
A Strategic Leap in Pollution Control
As part of the agreement, petrol pumps will now feature PUC testing centers, allowing vehicle owners to obtain emission certifications at their convenience. This initiative aligns with National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines and the Central Government’s pollution control policies, positioning Chhattisgarh at the forefront of clean air efforts.
Key representatives from the petroleum industry, including Shri Upendra Giri (Indian Oil Corporation), Shri B. Devkumar (Bharat Petroleum), Shri Shreyas Gupta (Reliance Industries), and Shri Gautam Kumar (Hindustan Petroleum), voiced strong support for the initiative, marking a significant public-private partnership for environmental sustainability.
Enhancing Compliance for Cleaner Air
The introduction of PUC facilities at petrol stations is expected to:
Improve convenience for motorists by providing pollution checks at commonly visited locations
Ensure higher compliance with emission standards, reducing overall vehicular pollution
Strengthen public health protections by curbing the risks associated with poor air quality
This move is expected to play a crucial role in Chhattisgarh’s ongoing efforts to enhance air quality and create a more sustainable environment for its residents.
