TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 6, 2025: A virtual meeting chaired by Transport Secretary and Commissioner Shri S. Prakash was held today to address the growing traffic issues caused by e-rickshaws and autos. The meeting, attended by officials from district headquarters in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Ambikapur, and Jagdalpur, focused on finding solutions to manage the rising number of these vehicles and ensure smoother, more orderly traffic. Additional Transport Commissioner Shri D. Ravishankar was also present.

With the increasing number of e-rickshaws and autos in the state, discussions centered on the need for effective monitoring, regulation, and control. The meeting revealed alarming statistics regarding the registration of e-rickshaws and autos: Raipur has 13,374 e-rickshaws and 20,306 autos, Bilaspur 4,493 e-rickshaws and 14,867 autos, Durg 4,038 e-rickshaws and 9,602 autos, Ambikapur 1,311 e-rickshaws and 4,429 autos, and Jagdalpur 41 e-rickshaws and 3,431 autos. The continuous increase in these numbers poses significant traffic management challenges.

Raipur’s Zone-Wise Plan for E-Rickshaw and Auto Management
One of the key highlights of the meeting was the presentation of a zone-wise plan by the Raipur District Administration. The city has been divided into five zones to facilitate the systematic and organized operation of e-rickshaws and autos.

Review of Central and State Legislation for E-Rickshaws
The meeting also reviewed the Acts and Rules governing e-rickshaws at both the central and state levels. Officials discussed the powers granted to the state government and district administrations to regulate these vehicles effectively. Further, feedback was gathered from district officers regarding the specific traffic issues arising from e-rickshaws and autos in their respective areas.

Seeking Proposals and Suggestions for Solutions
In conclusion, the meeting emphasized the need for proposals and suggestions to address the growing number of e-rickshaws and autos and their impact on traffic. District administrations were encouraged to submit any recommendations to the State Road Safety Committee or the Transport Department via the District Road Safety Committee for further action.
