161 Students Graduate with Degrees, 36 Gold Medals Awarded for Academic Excellence

TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 10, 2025: Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, held its 8th Convocation ceremony at Hotel Babylon Capital, Raipur, on March 8, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey of promoting legal education and research. The ceremony saw the conferral of degrees to 161 students in the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program, with 125 students receiving their degrees in person and 26 in absentia. Additionally, 90 LL.M. students graduated, with 57 attending in person and 30 in absentia. A Ph.D. degree was also awarded to a scholar for their exceptional research contribution.

Dignitaries Gracing the Occasion
The convocation was attended by Hon’ble Mr. Justice P.S. Narasimha, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, who served as the Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address. He highlighted the pivotal role of legal professionals in nation-building and emphasized the importance of legal education in shaping the future of India.

The ceremony was further honored by the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, and Shri Arun Sao, Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, as Guests of Honour. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh and Chancellor of HNLU, conferred the degrees on the graduating students. Other distinguished guests included Justices Sanjay K. Agrawal, P. Sam Koshy, and G. Raghuram, all of whom added prestige to the event.

Awards and Recognitions for Academic Excellence
One of the most anticipated moments of the convocation was the awarding of 36 Gold Medals to exceptional students. These included medals for top performers in both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs. Notable awards included the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, the University Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student, and several memorial gold medals, such as the Late Kamal Narayan Sharma Gold Medal and the Late Smt. Shanti Devi Agrawal Memorial Gold Medal.

University Achievements and Milestones
HNLU also took pride in highlighting its key accomplishments over the past year. Noteworthy achievements included the launch of CG-LEARN (Chhattisgarh Legal Education & Research Network), H-VISA (Visiting International Scholars Academy), and the first international collaboration with Texas A&M University. HNLU also signed an MoU with Chhattisgarh Police to provide training on new criminal laws and hosted prestigious moot court competitions.

Additionally, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. V.C. Vivekanandan, HNLU hosted notable jurists for its Annual Memorial Lecture Series and released two volumes of the HNLU Journal of Law & Social Sciences, along with editions of the HNLU Gazette and a book on blockchain and cryptocurrency.

Rankings and Recognition
HNLU continues to make strides in the academic world, ranking 5th among law colleges in India according to India Today. This recognition reflects the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and legal research.
