PM Lays Foundation Stone for Redevelopment of 508 Railway Stations, A Historic Move Towards Modernity and Development

TFP Bureau New Delhi,Aug 06, 2023 : In a momentous event, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi commenced the redevelopment of 508 Railway Stations across India through a virtual inauguration. This ambitious project, worth over Rs 24,470 crores, is set to transform the railway infrastructure in the country and breathe new life into these vital transportation hubs.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister expressed his excitement for the new era that India is entering, with a surge of energy, inspiration, and resolutions. He highlighted the changing attitude of the world towards India, attributing it to a stable majority government and ambitious decisions driving development and progress.

The redevelopment project, named ‘Amrit Bharat Stations,’ aims to modernize 1300 prime railway stations, providing a new lease of life and fostering a sense of pride in India’s rich heritage among its citizens. These redeveloped stations will be a symbol of India’s cultural and local heritage, showcasing glimpses of iconic landmarks from different regions. With a focus on infrastructure development, the project will have widespread benefits, boosting tourism and economic activities in nearby areas.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of August, a month marked by revolution, gratitude, and duty in Indian history. He stressed the importance of connecting with India’s past and preserving its unity while looking towards a modern and sustainable future.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the growth of Indian Railways, with extensive track-laying and railway network expansion. The railway’s role in fostering economic growth was also acknowledged, with record investments and focus on job creation for the youth.

A pivotal aspect of the redevelopment is making Indian Railways environmentally friendly. The Prime Minister announced plans for 100 percent rail line electrification, generating green energy from every railway station, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a part of the government’s vision to provide world-class public transport and state-of-the-art amenities at railway stations. The redevelopment will be guided by the holistic vision of urban development, transforming these stations into vibrant ‘City Centres’ with proper integration.

The 508 railway stations selected for redevelopment are spread across 27 states and union territories, with significant focus in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat, Telangana, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Karnataka.

The Prime Minister concluded his address by assuring that the Amrit Bharat Stations will take Indian Railways to new heights, aligning with the vision of a new India that is thriving on development and innovation, and where taxpayer money is utilized efficiently for the nation’s progress.

This historic move by the government marks the beginning of a transformative journey for Indian Railways, creating a modern and sustainable transportation network that will benefit millions of passengers and elevate India’s status on the global stage. The redevelopment of these 508 railway stations represents a significant step towards building a stronger, greener, and more connected India.
