Adani Foundation Empowers Water Harvesting Through Pond Deepening

TFP Bureau Raigarh; July 6, 2023: Recognizing the critical role of ponds in the lives of villagers and their water needs, Adani Foundation has taken a proactive step towards water conservation and harvesting. In the Pusaur development block of Raigarh district, where continuous use of groundwater has led to declining levels, the foundation has embarked on the deepening of ponds to address the pressing water scarcity in the region.
As part of its social concerns, Adani Power Limited, Raigarh, has undertaken the deepening of three ponds located in Gram Panchayat Ruchida, Bunga, and Putkapuri. This commendable initiative has significantly increased the ground water storage capacity of these ponds, providing an additional accumulation of approximately 16,262 cubic meters of water. The enhanced groundwater level will cater to the water requirements of agriculture and cattle, offering much-needed relief to the local communities.
The deepening work commenced during the summer season, and with the support of the district administration and public representatives, it was carried out meticulously. The inauguration of this vital project was performed by Mr. Dev Kumar Sahu, Sarpanch of village Ruchida, and Mrs. Kasturba Sidar, Sarpanch of village Bunaga. Adani Group officials and villagers were present during the auspicious ceremony. Thanks to the Foundation’s timely efforts, these three ponds have already started to fill with water as the rainy season begins.
