Prime Minister Narendra Modi Addresses the Nation on 77th Independence Day

With heartfelt greetings to the “140 crore family members” of the world’s largest democracy, he delved into a range of subjects that encapsulated the country’s achievements, aspirations, and challenges.

Paying homage to the heroes of India’s freedom struggle, Prime Minister Modi began by honoring the sacrifices of those who contributed to the nation’s independence. He acknowledged the legacy of Pujya Bapu’s non-cooperation movement and the valor of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru. On this significant day, he expressed gratitude to the countless souls who played their part in securing the nation’s freedom.

This Independence Day also marked the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, a revolutionary philosopher and spiritual pioneer. The Prime Minister highlighted the auspicious occasions of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the 500th birth anniversary of Rani Durgavati, and the 525-year celebration of Meerabai’s contribution to Bhakti Yoga.

In a forward-looking perspective, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Republic Day on January 26th, 2024. He hailed this occasion as a unique opportunity for national inspiration and introspection. “There can be no greater opportunity than this,” he proclaimed, urging the populace to channel their energy towards nation-building.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged recent challenges in parts of the North-East, particularly Manipur, where conflict threatened lives and honor. He lauded the ongoing efforts to restore peace and assured the country’s solidarity with the people of Manipur.

Stepping into economic and technological arenas, Prime Minister Modi celebrated India’s swift climb from the 10th to the 5th position in global economies. He emphasized the synergy between youth and technology, recounting India’s success in the digital realm and showcasing achievements in space exploration, renewable energy, and technological innovation.

As the nation witnesses rapid geopolitical changes, Prime Minister Modi outlined India’s pivotal role in the emerging world order. He praised India’s proactive stance during the COVID-19 crisis, which earned the country global respect and a newfound identity as a reliable global partner.

Touching on domestic policies, Prime Minister Modi detailed a slew of initiatives and accomplishments that transformed lives across the nation. He highlighted the expansion of financial support to states, the growth of local bodies, and the monumental progress in affordable housing.

Addressing corruption, nepotism, and appeasement, Prime Minister Modi called for an unyielding stand against these vices. He cited increasing chargesheets against corrupt practices and a firm stand against nepotism, focusing on a future of equal opportunities and social justice.

Prime Minister Modi concluded his speech by urging every Indian to contribute to the nation’s development, echoing the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi, the sacrifices of freedom fighters, and the aspirations of the 140 crore countrymen. He visualized the tricolor of India soaring high in 2047, signaling the dawn of a developed nation, and with that, he extended his heartfelt wishes and congratulations to all citizens.
