SAIL Supplies 4000 Tonnes of Special Steel for Indigenous Frigate “Vindhyagiri,” Showcasing AatmaNirbharta in Defense Sector
TFP Bureau, New Delhi, August 16, 2023: In a resounding display of unwavering commitment to national defense, the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has delivered an impressive 4000 Tonnes of Special Steel to support India’s latest endeavor, the indigenous sixth frigate ship christened “Vindhyagiri.” This remarkable feat marks a significant stride towards achieving self-reliance, or AatmaNirbharta, in the defense sector.
The frigate ship, a crucial component of the Project P17A initiative undertaken by the Indian Navy, is currently under construction by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE). The distinguished launch of the vessel is scheduled to be undertaken by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, on August 17, 2023.
SAIL’s contribution to the “Vindhyagiri” frigate encompasses DMR 249 A grade HR Sheets and Plates, demonstrating the company’s exceptional expertise and dedication to providing top-tier materials for defense applications.
Project P17A, a pivotal effort aimed at introducing seven ships, witnesses a momentous achievement with the imminent launch of the “Vindhyagiri.” As the sixth vessel of the initiative, its completion underlines SAIL’s unwavering commitment to nurturing indigenous innovation and development within India’s defense landscape.
Notably, this milestone follows SAIL’s commendable involvement in the commissioning of INS Vikrant, India’s illustrious aircraft carrier. The company’s contribution of 30,000 Tonnes of specialty steel for the carrier’s construction stands as a testament to SAIL’s pivotal role in bolstering the nation’s naval capabilities.
As the nation anticipates the historic launch of the “Vindhyagiri,” SAIL’s indomitable spirit and dedication continue to reinforce the foundation of self-sufficiency in the defense sector, a cornerstone of India’s strategic aspirations.
