President of India Graces Grand Launch of Vindhyagiri – Embodiment of Maritime Advancement

TFP Bureau Kolkata, August 17, 2023: In a momentous event that exemplifies India’s maritime progression, Her Excellency, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the launch ceremony of Vindhyagiri, the sixth vessel under the esteemed Project 17A of the Indian Navy. The ceremony, held at Garden Reach Shipbuilders Engineers Limited in Kolkata, West Bengal, marked a significant stride towards bolstering the nation’s naval capabilities.

Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted that the unveiling of Vindhyagiri symbolizes a resolute advancement in India’s maritime prowess. This milestone not only furthers our aspirations of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) through indigenous shipbuilding but also showcases our commitment to self-sufficiency and technological progress. The Project 17A, of which Vindhyagiri is an integral part, stands as a testament to our indigenous innovation and the development of cutting-edge technology.

Emphasizing India’s robust economic trajectory, the President pointed out that we currently hold the fifth-largest economy globally, with aspirations to secure the third position in the near future. As trade volume surges with our growing economy, a substantial portion of our trade traverses the seas, underscoring the paramount importance of oceans in our national progress.

Turning her attention to security, the President acknowledged the multifaceted security challenges prevalent in the Indian Ocean Region and the wider Indo-Pacific. She underscored the Navy’s perpetual responsibility to proactively address these security threats and maintain vigilance in safeguarding our strategic interests.
