Union Power Minister Inaugurates NTPC’s 660 MW Power Project in Bihar
TFP Bureau,New Delhi, August 18, 2023: In a significant stride towards enhancing the nation’s power infrastructure, the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R. K. Singh, is all set to inaugurate a pivotal phase of the NTPC’s Barh Super Thermal Power Project in Barh, Bihar. Scheduled for August 18, 2023, the event will witness the dedication of the impressive 660 MW Unit #2 of Stage I of the project. This inauguration stands as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to providing reliable and cost-effective electricity to the country.
The NTPC’s Barh Super Thermal Power Project has been a cornerstone of India’s power generation strategy. The commissioning of the 660 MW unit marks a significant stride forward in the nation’s energy journey. With the growing demand for electricity, the addition of this unit underscores the government’s resolve to meet the power needs efficiently.
As part of the day’s agenda, the Union Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the extension of the POWERGRID’s Lakhisarai Sub-station. With the project spearheaded by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a prestigious Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, the extension is poised to enhance power distribution in Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Munger, and Jamui districts. The augmentation will play a pivotal role in not only catering to the current demand but also accommodating future energy requirements.
The expansion includes the deployment of state-of-the-art 220 kV GIS technology, in tandem with the installation of two transformers boasting a capacity of 500 MVA. The incorporation of these advanced technologies is anticipated to bolster the region’s connectivity with the national grid, fostering a more reliable power supply system. This proactive approach towards ensuring uninterrupted electricity availability is also projected to stimulate industrial and commercial growth in the area.
