TFP Bureau,Raipur;August 29, 2023: In a significant move, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has penned a letter to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, calling for a distinct code for other backward classes (OBCs) in the forthcoming national census. Additionally, Mr. Baghel has urged the relocation of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) headquarters from Hyderabad to Jagdalpur, with the aim to bolster local employment opportunities.

Highlighting the urgency of the matter, Chief Minister Baghel stressed the importance of swift action and decisions regarding OBC reservation. He reaffirmed his commitment to the cause of equitable representation and social justice.

Referring to an earlier appeal made in April 2023, Mr. Baghel emphasized the need for 27 percent reservation for OBCs in Chhattisgarh, requesting its inclusion in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. The Chief Minister’s letter underscored the historical denial of socio-political rights to OBCs and the imperative to rectify this long-standing injustice.

Chief Minister Baghel further reminded of the unanimous passage of a bill in December 2022 that aimed at providing reservation to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and Economically Weaker Sections. However, the bill remains pending for approval at the Raj Bhavan.

The Chief Minister’s correspondence drew attention to the potential ramifications of denying constitutional rights to a substantial section of the population. The letter concluded with an appeal for expeditious action on the issues raised, aligning with the principles of equality and justice enshrined in the Constitution.

This development underscores the persistent efforts towards social upliftment and equal representation in Chhattisgarh and calls for a swift response from the central government.
