TFP Bureau, Raipur; August 31, 2023: Indira Gandhi Agricultural University has secured a resounding triumph on the national stage, with Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel conferring the esteemed ‘Gold’ accolade upon the institution at the National E-Governance Awards 2023. The honor is a testament to the groundbreaking strides made by the university in crafting the Artificial Intelligence (AI) fueled ‘Crop Doctor 2.0 app.’ The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Girish Chandel, and the entire university team basked in the glow of this achievement.
The AI-infused app embodies a plethora of benefits for agriculturists, from identifying diseases plaguing 36 distinct crop varieties to pinpointing pernicious pests. Additionally, real-time weather insights, the leasing of agricultural machinery, and access to online marketing platforms are seamlessly integrated. The app is poised to serve as an indispensable tool, empowering farmers with precise data and fostering the proliferation of ‘smart agriculture’ practices across the state. Remarkably, around 800,000 farmers are already reaping the rewards of the application in their cultivation pursuits.
Indira Gandhi Agricultural University clinched this distinguished recognition for its exemplary research into citizen-centric services, as acknowledged by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievance under the aegis of the Government of India. The Golden Trophy, a commendation, and a monetary award of Rs 10 lakh were presented to the university by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh during a two-day national symposium hosted in Indore.
Developed collaboratively with NIC Raipur, the ‘Crop Doctor 2.0 Mobile Application’ represents a pivotal achievement in leveraging technology for transformative growth in agriculture. The ‘Gold’ accolade of the ‘National E-Governance Awards 2023’ was presented by the Government of India to applaud the university’s dedication to catalyzing advanced, AI-driven, and revolutionary farming practices.
Esteemed figures such as Dr. R.R. Saxena, Dr. LS Verma, Mr. Abhijeet Kaushik, and Ms. Kalpana Banjare from Indira Gandhi Agricultural University also graced the event with their presence, underscoring the collaborative spirit that underscores such breakthroughs.
