President of India Confers National Awards on Teachers

TFP Bureau, New Delhi; September 5, 2023: In a heartfelt tribute to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India, on his birth anniversary, President Smt Droupadi Murmu paid her respects at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. Commemorating this significant day, the President bestowed National Awards upon teachers from various corners of the nation during a distinguished ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu underscored the pivotal role of elementary education in every individual’s life. She delved into the essence of holistic child development, citing the three-H formula propagated by many educationists. According to this formula, the first H signifies the Heart, embodying sensitivity, human values, character strength, and morality. The second H, the Head, pertains to mental development, reasoning prowess, and intellectual growth. Finally, the third H, the Hand, symbolizes reverence for manual skills and physical labor. The President fervently advocated for this comprehensive approach to foster the well-rounded growth of our youth.

Moreover, President Murmu stressed the significance of increasing the representation of female teachers among awardees, given the rising participation of women in the teaching profession. She passionately expressed that supporting and encouraging female students and educators is paramount for women’s empowerment.

In her address, the President underscored the paramount role of educators in shaping the nation’s future. She unequivocally stated that quality education is an inherent right of every child, with teachers serving as the linchpin in realizing this fundamental right. This pivotal role of teachers is explicitly affirmed in the National Education Policy of 2020.

Furthermore, President Murmu eloquently conveyed the joint responsibility of both teachers and parents in recognizing and nurturing each child’s unique abilities. She emphasized that parents trust teachers with the precious task of molding their children and underscored the privilege teachers hold in imparting love and knowledge to the 40-50 young minds in their care.

President Murmu also reminisced about the indelible mark teachers leave on their students’ lives. She evoked the memories of praise, encouragement, and even discipline meted out by teachers, all of which linger in the hearts and minds of their pupils. Stressing the enduring importance of love and affection in education, she asserted that nurturing young minds with care is just as vital as imparting knowledge.

In conclusion, the President’s address celebrated the dedication of teachers as the architects of the nation’s destiny. As she conferred the National Awards on these exceptional educators, she left an indomitable message echoing the sentiment that the foundation of a thriving society is built upon the wisdom and guidance provided by its teachers.
