Chhattisgarh Government Enhances Benefits for Anganwadi Workers and Assistants

TFP Bureau, Raipur; Sep 16, 2023: The Chhattisgarh government has rolled out a comprehensive set of measures aimed at improving the working conditions and welfare of Anganwadi workers and assistants. These changes include an extension of the retirement age, increased recruitment opportunities, and improved allowances, signifying the government’s dedication to supporting those who play a vital role in the well-being of women and children across the state.

One of the significant changes is the extension of the retirement age for Anganwadi workers from 62 years to 65 years. This decision acknowledges the invaluable experience and dedication of these workers, allowing them to continue their essential work for an additional three years.

In a move to provide more employment opportunities, the state government has increased the percentage of vacant Anganwadi worker positions that will be filled by Anganwadi assistants from 25% to 50%. This enhancement not only creates more job prospects but also recognizes the critical role played by Anganwadi assistants.

Furthermore, the eligibility criteria for Anganwadi assistant recruitment have been revised, reducing the required years of experience from 10 to 5 years. This change opens doors for individuals with slightly less experience, broadening the pool of potential candidates.

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel had previously announced an increase in the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers in the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24. As per the latest orders, Anganwadi workers now receive an enhanced honorarium of Rs. 10,000 per month, up from Rs. 6,500. Similarly, Anganwadi helpers’ honorarium has been raised to Rs. 5,000 per month from Rs. 3,250, and Mini Anganwadi workers receive Rs. 7,500 per month, up from Rs. 4,500.

Additionally, the government has introduced provisions for ex-gratia amounts in case of the unfortunate demise of Anganwadi workers and assistants. The ex-gratia amount has been increased to Rs. 50,000. Similarly, a lump sum payment of Rs. 50,000 will be made upon retirement for Anganwadi workers, and Rs. 25,000 for Anganwadi helpers, recognizing their dedicated service to the community.

These measures reflect the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Anganwadi workers and assistants, enabling them to continue their invaluable work in nurturing the health and well-being of women and children in Chhattisgarh.
