TFP Bureau, New Delhi ; Sep 19, 2023: In a momentous occasion that symbolizes India’s forward trajectory, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha in the newly inaugurated Parliament building. The Prime Minister marked this historic occasion with gratitude to the Speaker for the opportunity to address the House during this special session on the first day in the new Parliament building.
Prime Minister Modi extended a warm welcome to the Members of the House, emphasizing the significance of the moment as India enters the era of “Amrit Kaal,” demonstrating its unwavering resolve for a prosperous future. He spoke of recent achievements, including the success of Chandrayaan 3 in the field of science and India’s role in hosting the G20 and its global impact.

The Prime Minister highlighted that India stands at a unique juncture, and the inauguration of the new Parliament building marks a historic moment. On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, he invoked Lord Ganesh, the deity of prosperity, auspiciousness, reason, and knowledge, as a symbol of new beginnings. He expressed a desire to achieve resolutions with renewed enthusiasm and energy, drawing inspiration from leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, who used Ganesh Chaturthi to ignite the flame of Swaraj during the Freedom Struggle.
The Prime Minister noted that the day also coincides with Samvatsari Parva, a festival of forgiveness. He encouraged everyone to seek forgiveness for any intentional or unintentional actions that may have caused harm, using the festival as an opportunity to let go of bitterness and move forward.

Referring to the sacred Sengol, touched by India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, he emphasized its significance as a link between the old and new India and as a witness to the dawn of freedom. The Prime Minister commended the grandeur of the new building and acknowledged the tireless efforts of the thousands of workers and engineers who continued construction during the pandemic. The entire House applauded these dedicated workers.
Shifting focus to the impact of emotions and feelings on actions, the Prime Minister stressed that the change in the building should be accompanied by a change in sentiment, emphasizing the importance of this transformation.
He reminded the Members that Parliament’s primary purpose is to serve the nation and should transcend political affiliations, solely aiming for the nation’s development. He urged all Members to uphold the spirit of the Constitution through their words, thoughts, and actions, assuring the Speaker that they would work under his guidance. The Prime Minister emphasized that public scrutiny is an integral part of parliamentary proceedings, making Members’ behavior crucial.
Highlighting the need for collective dialogue and action for the common good, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of unity in goals. He called upon all Members to adhere to parliamentary traditions and the “Lakshaman Rekha” to maintain the sanctity of the House.
Continuing, the Prime Minister spoke of the vital role of politics in societal transformation and the significant contributions of Indian women across various sectors. He mentioned how the world recognized the concept of women-led development during the G20 meetings and lauded the government’s initiatives, such as the Jan Dhan Scheme, Mudra Yojana, and PM Awaas Yojana, which have been beneficial for women.
Emphasizing that history is created at a particular juncture in a nation’s development journey, the Prime Minister announced a historic moment with the Cabinet’s approval of the Reservation of Women in Parliament Bill. He recounted the bill’s introduction in 1996 and its subsequent attempts, expressing his belief in its successful passage. He asserted that this day, September 19, 2023, would be immortalized in India’s history, signifying the commitment to women’s participation in policy-making.
In line with this commitment, the Prime Minister introduced the Narishakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a significant Constitutional Amendment Bill aimed at expanding women’s participation in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas. He congratulated the women of India for this achievement and assured them of the government’s commitment to enact the bill into law. He urged all colleagues in the House to pass the bill with consensus, recognizing the transformative power it holds.
